DETERMINANTS OF DUTCH DISEASE IN THE MEXICAN ECONOMY

Abstract

The aim of this study is to measure the impact of the determinants of Dutch disease in the deficit of the Mexican trade balance excluding oil and assembly industry (BACOMAYAG), using a model of multivariate regression and statistical information yearly from 1993 to 2015. The results indicate that the deficit of the mexican trade balance excluding oil and assembly industry maintain an inverse relationship with: the balance of assembly industry, the surplus of the oil balance, remittances from migrants, and the differential between the real and nominal exchange rate and a positive foreign direct investment. Depending on the economic elasticities calculated, the greatest impact (in absolute terms) on BACOMAYAG is the assembly industry trade balance, followed by the deterioration of the exchange rate and remittances.
