The expansion of Spanish businesses into Latin America: An analysis .

Abstract

This work analyses the evolution of the overseas expansion of Spanish companies into Latin American using a newly created database containing data broken down at company level and covering a wide time scale (1986-2007). The analysis demonstrates that this region remains attractive to Spanish businesses. After the considerable number of operations in the 1990s, as a result of liberalisation and privatisation processes in the area, in recent years new companies, mainly manufacturers and non-regulated services, have been leading Spanish business operations in Latin America.
