Abstract
This papers empirically analyzes factors determining the establishment mode choice —greenfield investments versus acquisitions. The study is focused on foreign direct investments carried out by Spanish firms in the European Union. By using the Fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis as methodology, we achieve results which point to cultural distance, host country risk and multinationals’ accrued experience as main factors driving the establishment choice.
