Abstract
Specific competitive advantages of an industry combined with nation's comparative advantages can create a development environment. This paper analyzes factors of the business environment considering the macro scenario impact on the tourism sector. A regression analysis verified the significance level of 14 variables on the Pillar 1 (Business environment) of the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI). The sample was 126 countries and, the country's development stage was used as control variable. Research findings indicated that the primary impediments of a competitive business environment are related to administrative requirements, bureaucracy, licensing processes and corruption.
